Kepos Street Kitchen.

Good Morning Fellow Foodies,

I Hope the week end has treated you all well, as well as for my fellow Aussies a very Happy Father’s day.
I had a pretty decent week end can’t complain about much other then a rather small bad experience I had on saturday.
So post my morning training I set out to meet a few girlfriends fo lunch. We decided on Kepos Kitchen in Surry Hills as I am working my way down a list of places I would like to eat at.
Upon arraival we were met with a line of people waiting… After realising we had to put our name down on the list, we quiet likely waited about an hour or so for a table for 3. I mean It is small quaint joint afterall so i wasn’t too fussed.
Eventually when we made it into the cafe and were seated the waitress offered us drinks on the house as a token of appreciation for our long wait. Going through the menu we choose 3 different fruit mocktails. I personally settles for the Tamarind & lemon.

The drinks arravied in quirky little glass jars , super addorable & rather refreshing after such a long wait, once we settled for the entre which was the Tel Aviv Falafel & green tahini & a side of brasserie bread sourdough & olive & hazelnut Dukkah it was a short wait until our pallets were imerced in a flavousome combination of modern arabic infused culinary.

WOW I Mean just WOW, the falafel was crunchy the tahini was fresh & homemade and the bread and dukkah combination, just perfect.

AND THEN the worst possible thing happened, our mains, quiet simple mains to be honest, Chopped vegetable salad, baked eggs and Steak sandwhich took over and hour to arrive at hour table… I mean look the cafe was rather busy, the kitchen was pumping out meals one after the other just not hours. It was quiet frustrating watching others have their food served before them as we waited and waited and waited for our mains to arrive.

keposlunch

The waitress was clearly aware of the situtation and several times assured us our meal was next, after what felt like an eternity our meals finally arrived. NOW let me begin by explaining my personal experince in terms of taste. WELL the salad was absolutelly divine, fresh, crunchy with a mint yogurt dressing just to die for. The serving was quiet big and super filling, I was extremelly impressed with what was presented before me. I could not have asked for better, Sarah my fellow foodie love ordered the soft baked eggs, well she was happy with it however not too impressed with the fact that the egg was little too over baked & well I gues sfater waiting for such a long time she just wasn’t too hungry but over all happy with the taste, I had a little dip into her meal as well and found it to be quiet flavousome, great mix of modern day baked egg with a touch of arabic spices. Elizabeth n the other hanbd received a monsther like steak sandwichi, I know I make it sound like MAN MEAL but it was beautifully presented, side of chips , cut in half smelt DIVINE, but at that point after being starved by the wait she wasn’t overly keen and to top it off she felt a little ill by some sort of smell which we much later worked out was from Sarah’s main, the ceramic pot used to baked the eggs let off this sort of dirty baked smell which in my opinion was rather fragrant and added to the flavour of the dish, but of course everyone is different.

Needless to say I think Liz did not enjoy her main as much however she did mention that despite the smell the sandwhich was rather amazing in taste.
To top off our experience we all had 3 different deserts, I choose the orange & coconut macaroon, Liz had the caramel slice & Sarah the Strawberry cake.

Over all I had a pleasant experinece in terms of food, if you don’t mind the wait the I reccomend the place for taste but for service it was extremelly poor, although the staff was apologetic it still does not make up for the long time we awaited to be seated, served and fed.
I doubt I will make a return to this cafe, perhaps in the future I may want to try it again, it was a saturday afterall and giving the area people are very well known to flock to the streets for brunches on beautiful sunny day.

That concludes my bad experince which I am half heartedly forgiving only because I rather enjoyed the food.

Hope everyone has a great saturday.Patty x
